The design was created by Colleen Farr, a trailblazing figure who made history by establishing Liberty’s first-ever in-house design studio in the early 1950s.

This exclusive greeting card has been designed by Farr exclusively for William Morris Gallery & Liberty London for our Women in Print: 150 years of Liberty Textiles exhibition. Taking inspiration from famous fabric designs from Liberty London's archive this colourful greeting card is blank inside and printed in Sussex on fsc certified paper.

Farr was a graduate of the Royal College of Art and played a pivotal role in transitioning Liberty from traditional Victorian-inspired prints to the bold, experimental styles of the 1950s and 60s. Her signature approach often involved hand-painted motifs that felt organic yet structured. Colleen Stacey perfectly captures this, depicting a budding fruit branch arranged in a clever, multidirectional repeat.

Reworked by the Liberty design studio for a contemporary audience, this print retains Farr’s original artistic spirit while offering a fresh perspective on 1950s botanical art. Alongside her other notable works, such as the vibrant "Cherry" and "Lollipop" prints, Farr’s contribution helped cement Liberty’s reputation as a leader in avant-garde textile design.

Now part of the Liberty Tana Capsule, Colleen Stacey appears alongside John, Lawrence Poppies and Cassia Pru across a beautifully curated range

About the Exhibition

William Morris Gallery will present Women in Print: 150 years of Liberty Textiles. Conceived in partnership with Liberty Fabrics on the occasion of the design house’s 150th anniversary, this major exhibition will highlight the pivotal role and contributions of women textile designers.

Tracing the rich history of Liberty Fabrics, the exhibition will survey the evolving influence and status of women in textiles over the past 150 years. Women in Print will bring together iconic patterns by designers such as Althea McNish, Susan Collier and Sarah Campbell, and Lucienne Day, alongside previously overlooked names, celebrating how women have been — and continue to be — at the heart of Liberty’s creative innovations and ongoing relevance today.
