NEW GALLERY PARTNERSHIP: Bumboo Strawberry Thief Collection

NEW GALLERY PARTNERSHIP: Bumboo Strawberry Thief Collection

At the William Morris Gallery, we are always inspired by Morris's enduring belief that we should "have nothing in our houses that we do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." Today, we're delighted to celebrate a new licensing partnership that brings that philosophy into an unexpected corner of the home.

We're thrilled to launch the new William Morris Collection with Bumboo, featuring the iconic Strawberry Thief design across a thoughtfully curated range of everyday essentials. Featuring bamboo toilet rolls, facial tissues, kitchen rolls and handmade soaps, the collection transforms practical household items into beautifully designed objects that are both useful and visually uplifting

Bumboo has built its reputation around creating high-quality household products that are kinder to the planet, while proving that sustainable choices never need to compromise on style. The new William Morris Collection combines Bumboo's environmentally conscious approach with one of Morris's most celebrated patterns, creating a range that feels perfectly at home with his vision of everyday beauty.

The result is a collection that encourages us to find joy in the ordinary. Whether it's a beautifully wrapped toilet roll or a thoughtfully designed box of tissues, these are products that elevate daily rituals while bringing a touch of Morris's timeless design into modern homes.

As the home of William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow holds a special place in Britain's design history. But many people may not realise that it also played a surprising role in the history of another household essential.

According to local history, Walthamstow was the birthplace of Britain's first soft toilet paper. In 1942, St Andrew Mills, based on St Andrews Road, introduced a pioneering two-ply toilet roll under the name "Androll", which was marketed for its softness. The brand was later renamed Andrex, becoming one of the UK's most recognisable household names

The company grew rapidly in the post-war years, employing hundreds of local people, and its Walthamstow roots remain an important chapter in the area's industrial heritage

It feels particularly fitting, therefore, that a new collection featuring Morris's designs should find its way onto a product category with such a strong connection to the Gallery's hometown.

The William Morris Collection is about more than beautiful products. In keeping with Morris's deep appreciation of the natural world, every purchase from the range helps support rewilding projects across the UK, helping to create positive environmental impact beyond the home.

It's a collaboration that reflects values shared by both organisations: craftsmanship, sustainability and the belief that well-designed objects can enrich everyday life.
