Inspiration for the design:

I have worked in Walthamstow as a teacher and artist since 1999 but moved to live here in 2011 and saw the WMG re-open after the refurbishment as a mother of a new-born baby in 2012. I have since been visiting Lloyd park and WMG as an artist and mother. I produced the designs in and around the gallery from studies and colours of the plants, trees, sky - atmospheres of the garden and looking out of the small room and cafe whilst breastfeeding, entertaining my children.

Project background:

I started this project in 2014 when I was commissioned to produce and design samples using burberry stripes and Jamdani technique of Bangladesh by a PhD student from Bath university. My work was exhibited at the Dhaka Muslin Festival which was very well received and my communication with Saiful Islam, author of 'Muslin: our story' resulted in the weavers of Bangladesh weaving my samples over a period of 5 years until I was happy with the results. And so these scarves are handwoven by master weavers in Sonargaon village, Bangladesh.
