Initially created by Madeline Lawrence in 1932, Lawrence Poppies is a significant archival piece from the renowned Silver Studio. Working at a time when most designers for large-scale commercial production remained anonymous, Lawrence was part of the first generation of female designers to break into the industry for printed textile production. Her work during this period helped establish the Silver Studio’s reputation for dress prints, which became a staple of fashion in inter-war Britain.

These exclusive notebooks have been designed by Lawrence exclusively for Liberty London & William Morris Gallery for our Women in Print: 150 years of Liberty Textiles exhibition.  Taking inspiration from famous fabric designs from Liberty London's archive these colourful notebooks are plain inside and can be used as a pocket sketch or note book.

The design exhibits a careful arrangement of brightly hued poppies over a soft, tonal ground, showcasing Lawrence's precision and skill in botanical study. Another of her celebrated designs, Madeleine, features radiant clusters of wild anemones and is often highlighted alongside Lawrence Poppies as a testament to her finesse and romantic style.

By featuring these patterns, we celebrate the evolving influence of women in textiles. Lawrence’s contributions, along with those of her contemporaries, paved the way for greater female visibility in a field that—at the time—offered limited professional opportunities for women.

Now part of the Liberty Tana Capsule, Lawrence Poppies appears alongside John, Colleen Stacey and Cassia Pru across a beautifully curated range
