Located in the northeastern region of Iran, the second largest city, Mashad is one of the country's most important rug-producing centres. The tradition of rug making can be traced back to the 16th century during the Safavid dynasty and because of the the city's strategic location along the Silk Road, it contributed to the growth of its rug industry as it facilitated trade and the exchange of artistic influences. The case of this design is carefully planned out, notice the myriad of animals in the tree and the borders that takes the eye into a journey alongside the many designs of leaves and flowers. The pink field adds to the overall vibrancy.
