William Morris Gallery is thrilled to present a new and exclusive collaboration with Central Saint Martins. As part of the BA Ceramic Design course, students were challenged to reinterpret the legacy of William Morris—Britain’s most influential designer—through
a fresh, contemporary lens.
The result is a stunning limited-edition collection of handcrafted vases that blend sustainability, storytelling, and traditional design.
Designer Iona Singleton draws inspiration from the iconic Golden Lily pattern by Morris and John Henry Dearle, transforming its motifs into elegant, sculptural forms.
Designed to hold a small spray of blooms, these vases are just as captivating when empty—their floral silhouettes forming a sculptural posy when grouped together.
Crafted in small numbers using reclaimed clay from the ceramics workshop at Central Saint Martins, each piece is unique. The clay is extruded through laser-cut Perspex molds based on Morris and Dearle motifs, creating gentle twists and organic variations.
The glossy glaze references 19th-century finishes, with soft pinks and greens drawn from Morris’s vivid block printing, and a natural canvas tone inspired by a tracing paper pattern by May Morris, held in the William Morris Gallery Archives.
A fusion of historic design and modern craft, these vases are both functional objects and collectible artworks.
