Envisioned and executed by master glassmaker Stewart Hearn, this large tumbler will bring artisanal flair to your hosting tablescape. Artfully crafted in Hearn’s studio in the charming town of Chatteris in Cambridgeshire, this tumbler design has been inspired by a glass goblet held within the William Morris Gallery archive.

Designed by architect, artist, and designer Philip Webb (1831 -1915), also sometimes referred to as the Father of the Arts and Crafts architecture, the archive piece was designed in the 1860s by Webb for William Morris’ new home, Red House. Alongside the goblet, Webb designed a number of wine-glasses and other glass vessels for manufacture by James Powell & Sons, specifically for William Morris’s use at Red House. Subsequently, glasses from this series, along with  others designed by Webb were among the first products sold by Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Company.

As part of our Archive collection Hearn has re-imagined Webb’s designs using an optic mould, where hot glass is dipped before blowing to create ribs in the body of the glass. Each glass is a unique object in a series,  hand-made in small numbers exclusively for the gallery. Every purchase directly supports the maker & the traditional practice of art and crafts within the UK, alongside supporting William Morris Gallery’s work, helping to fund our education initiatives, conservation efforts and world-class exhibitions.
