Discover the stories, people and places at the heart of Earthly Paradise: Radical Living in the UK through this exclusive A3 print, specially commissioned by William Morris Gallery and created by Cambridge-based artist and historian Rory Hutton.
This striking lino-cut design celebrates the Guild of Handicraft, the pioneering community of craftspeople founded by Charles Robert Ashbee in 1888. Inspired by the ideals of the Arts and Crafts movement, the Guild brought together designers, makers and artisans who sought to challenge industrial production through a commitment to craftsmanship, collaboration and socially conscious work. Their workshops and later move to Chipping Campden became an influential experiment in communal living and creative practice.
Inspired by an exhibition that explores 200 years of artists, activists and communities who challenged convention and imagined new ways of living, Hutton's design brings together historical storytelling, printmaking and craftsmanship. Through carefully chosen imagery, the print reflects the Guild's belief that art, labour and everyday life should be closely connected, highlighting a vision of society rooted in cooperation, skill and creative expression.
Printed in Sussex on FSC-certified Mondi smooth paper, this high-quality A3 print makes a distinctive addition to any home and an ideal gift for admirers of Arts and Crafts design, decorative arts and social history.
Every purchase directly supports William Morris Gallery, helping to fund vital conservation work, world-class exhibitions and community education programmes.
