Discover the stories, people and places at the heart of Earthly Paradise: Radical Living in the UK through this exclusive tea towel, specially commissioned by William Morris Gallery and created by Cambridge-based artist and historian Rory Hutton.

This striking design celebrates Oscar Wilde, one of the most influential literary and cultural figures of the late nineteenth century. Featuring Wilde's famous Blue China quote, the artwork explores the aesthetic ideals that shaped his life and work, and his belief in the transformative power of beauty, art and self-expression. The design reflects Wilde's association with the Aesthetic Movement, which challenged conventional ideas about art, taste and domestic life.

Inspired by an exhibition that explores 200 years of artists, activists and communities who challenged convention and imagined new ways of living, Hutton's design combines historical storytelling with traditional printmaking. Through carefully chosen imagery and the inclusion of Wordsworth's poem, the tea towel celebrates themes of companionship, home and self-determination that resonate throughout the exhibition.

Made and printed in the UK from high-quality cotton canvas, this beautifully produced tea towel brings a touch of radical history and artistic craftsmanship into the home. Both practical and decorative, it makes a thoughtful gift for lovers of social history, printmaking and design.

Every purchase directly supports William Morris Gallery, helping to fund vital conservation work, world-class exhibitions and community education programmes.
