Experience the charm of a timeless design with our exclusive, hand-crafted William Morris Strawberry Thief Ceramics collection by Burleigh. Presented in elegant gift boxes, these pieces make a striking gift for any Morris or Burleigh collector. Each item, including
the distinctive cow creamer, butter dish, small tankard jug, large Etruscan jug and teapot, beautifully combines artistry with practicality.
First designed in 1883, Strawberry Thief was one of Morris’s most intricate and expensive patterns. Inspired by the thrushes he saw in his garden, it remains one of his most beloved works. Each piece is decorated by skilled artisans using Burleigh’s centuries-old tissue
transfer printing technique, honouring a rare craft preserved at the last remaining pottery in the UK to use this method. Even the shapes have a story, with each piece carrying on the heritage of traditional craftsmanship.
As part of our Legacy Collection, your purchase directly supports British artisans and their traditional craft practices, while also helping William Morris Gallery fund its vital work.
This contemporary interpretation of the design has been uniquely decorated by skilled craftsmen with Burleigh's centuries-old technique of tissue transfer printing from hand-engraved copper rollers in the last remaining pottery using this technique in the UK.
About Burleigh
We have been crafting high-quality ceramics in England for over 160 years. Recognised for our dedication to fine craftsmanship and traditional manufacturing, we have been making our iconic blue and white ceramics, using the same techniques for generations. We are the last pottery in the world to use the traditional and timeless skill of underglaze tissue printing, which is an English process dating back over 200 years.
Here at Burleigh we use traditional skills and techniques, the highest-quality raw materials and our dedicated team of craftspeople to create our classic and timeless tableware, just like we did 170 years ago.
