Brother Rabbit, also known as Brer Rabbit was first designed in 1881 for the opening of his Merton Abbey works in 1882. The design was inspired by a character in the Uncle Remus stories by the American journalist and writer J. C. Harris, which Morris would read to his two young daughters.
